Introduction: the Snowbird Lifestyle

Just like birds flying south for the winter, human residents of cold climates desire to escape the cold climates for a life of leisure.  This website aims to help you enter this wonderful lifestyle of leisure, adventure, and good health.  The links and topics in this site will help you decide where and how to start your adventure as a snowbird.  We also have many listings and links that will help you find actual accommodations at an affordable price.

The snowbird lifestyle has existed in Europe and North America for many centuries. Prosperous Europeans during the Victorian Age would escape the cold winters of their Northern homes by traveling to a milder Mediterranean climate in Italy or Southern France.  These Europeans lived a leisurely life of good health and prosperity.  North Americans during the past several centuries have also enjoyed this lifestyle.  Many influential Americans and Canadians have enjoyed a winter home in the warmer climates of the United States.  Henry Ford and Thomas Edison both maintained winter homes in Fort Myers, Florida.  Some of their most influential ideas were conceived while staying at their winter homes.

Today the snowbird lifestyle is not just for the rich and famous.  Accommodations in every price bracket allow for a large portion of the population to live the snowbird dream.  Whether in a manufactured home or high rise condo, current snowbirds enjoy the warm and mild winter climates of the southern United States.  The most popular snowbird destinations are Florida, Arizona, and Southern California. On this site we focus primarily on the most popular and affordable destination: Florida.
